Sidewalk Ends

One End Missing Leastways
Is this a Shel game?
(Image from Cosmic Realms)

Some days, I just have to be . . . lazy. So, I'm borrowing this image from Randy McRoberts over at The Upward Way Press, where I posted my baffled response:
Odd. I see only one end.
I'm still trying to see at least two ends on this sidewalk, but I confess that I'm really seeing only one. Perhaps a lack of perspective on my part? Can anybody show me what other end this sign signifies?

You are too much the Scholar,

I did some research on this photograph using the Naval Surface Warfare School assets and have found the unfortunate photographer took too great a risk for the betterment of his fellow humankind.

He (the photographer) took what seemed adequate precautions. However there was a fan within 30 yards behind him, blowing towards the (his) end of the sidewalk. From this one may deduce what happened to that end of the sidewalk.

One need only consider the less than obvious perturbations of the ether that surely affected the space/time continnuum behind the guy. He did receive the Navy Cross(posthumously awarded)-however the Navy does admit the possibility that a "Philadelphia Experiment" type phenomenon might be at work, but there were no discernable traces of the unfortunate fellow.

A debt of gratitude is owed this brave individual. Keep this in mind when gazing upon this seeming enigma.

It's nice that the poor fellow received due recognition, JK, but I bet that he'd have preferred to go without fanfare.

Doggone it, you are a Scholar!

The guy (poor fellow) is likely as dead as the eels, snails, white goldfish, etc you've previously described! He knew the risks: yet in knowing, knew that any rewards would not cause him embarrassment nor to anyone else (he was an orphan). We can only hope he's not being subjected to further torments in the ether.

But poor Kapok may not be so lucky. As soon as (well it only took 37 minutes) I posted my comments, a difficulty arose. I'm posting now for self protection in case my family wants to know what happened to me.

I had cleared my post with the President but the aforementioned 37minute interval allowed Vice President Cheney time to get off the field of his latest quail hunt and review the Presidents determination that it was fine for Kapok to post. We were overruled.

Kapok had a helicopter land in his yard and now sports a transponder/GPS equipped ankle bracelet, and a subcutaneously injected something or other.

If Mom calls asking where I am? Tell her I'm enjoying water sports on the shores of the beautiful Gitmo Bay.

Don't you hate these lazy days?

If the Gitmo prisoners have access not only to the internet but also to warm, sandy beaches, then how do I get myself arrested?

How can I send a mail to you?
I cannot find any address in the blog.

I wonder if you can tell me about Korean college's limit for foreign professors.

We've been looking at the picture incorrectly. The sidewalk actually goes left to right in the picture. It is very wide and very short. There are two ends.

Are we channeling Shel Silverstein?

Excellent observation, Randy. If only I had seen it myself.

I can merely plead that the sign could have been more explicit and should have indicated the sidewalk's two ends through arrows

Kevin, at first I suspected such a 'Shel' game, but given Randy's observation, I now see that any resemblance to Shel Silverstein's famous drawing is merely an optical illusion, for we've been looking at this sidewalk the wrong way, at one side rather than the two ends -- as I certainly should have realized, for if Silverstein's drawing were being referenced, then we'd also be seeing the ends of the earth.
