How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
I don't know, but beavers are 'gnawtier' little critters with a brand-spanking-new concept in tails and tail-use (if we're talking geological time), so I'd take a beaver over a woodchuck any old day.

I once knew a beaver named Chuck
who, feeling quite down on his luck,
dismantled a tree
in an hour or three
while whining, "I'm slower than hell!"
And here I was, expecting "Doug." You know. "Doug the Duck." I mean, "Doug the Wood Duck," who, despite the title "Wood Duck," knows not a thing about things woody. Just not his thing. So . . . to be slower than Doug is to be quite slow indeed.
