Troubled Times

Time's Decline

The time was late,
the hour near.
Yet still she stood
in line so queer.

The hour late,
the time was near.
Yet stood she still
in line so queer.

The hour late,
the time was near.
Still stood she yet
in line so queer.

The hour late,
the time was near.
Still yet she stood.
in line so queer.

The time was late,
the hour near.
Yet still she stood
in line so queer.

This sounds like the kind of poem an English teacher could use to talk about word order and adverb placement in English. Nicely done.

Jeff,

The time is late
the hour here
when she she did write
to bend his ear

The changing word order enacts the minutely changing stances of the lady in the queue, as she shifts weight, position and attitude to enable her to tolerate the excruciating physical challenge of standing still.
