I once had a Korean student who had given herself the strange Western-ish name "Artica." Years have passed since then; she's no doubt an "Aunt Artica" to someone now.
I asked her about that: why "Ar-tica" and not "Arc-tica"? I no longer recall her answer. I suspect that, as with many Koreans who give themselves Konglishy names, there was no deep reason behind her denomination aside from "It sounded cool, so I went with it."
