A Snippet of High Praise
I really enjoyed reading this article and got so many insightful thoughts on the 20th and 21st century American national identity . . . This kind of rereading needs to be invited to the academic discourse of American literature and culture more readily.

"Not postmodernist enough! Needs more obfuscatory prose and pretzel logic! Needs more buzz words like 'ahistorical,' 'alterity,' and 'metanarrative'! Needs the clever use of chiasmus to make pseudo-profound points that sound vaguely French, to wit: The learning of being is the being of learning! Add heaps of twaddle and piffle! If we can understand the paper, it's not good enough, for knowledge is never meant to be shared! It must remain unavailable to the masses even as we hypocritically decry perceived elitism elsewhere!"
Do you ever get sick of what academe has become? As Agent Smith asked Neo: "Why do you persist?"
Persist? Because there is at times the snippet . . .

Yes, but I had forgotten about these interchanges. Thanks for reminding me.
