"Angry Man In New York"

Sting

I've always liked Sting's song "Englishman in New York," and since my thirteen-year-old son, En-Uk, has been getting into this song recently, I decided to write down the lyrics, also because he wants to learn them (and the YouTube video can be seen here):
"Englishman In New York"

I don't drink coffee I take tea my dear
I like my toast done on one side
And you can hear it in my accent when I talk
I'm an Englishman in New York

See me walking down Fifth Avenue
A walking cane here at my side
I take it everywhere I walk
I'm an Englishman in New York

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York

If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said
Then he's the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York

Modesty, propriety can lead to notoriety
You could end up as the only one
Gentleness, sobriety are rare in this society
At night a candle's brighter than the sun

Takes more than combat gear to make a man
Takes more than a license for a gun
Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can
A gentleman will walk but never run

If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said
Then he's the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say
Be yourself no matter what they say
Be yourself no matter what they say

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
Those are the lyrics, but since En-Uk has been singing fragments of the song without quite understanding it, and even getting on my nerves a bit at times, I've decided to teach him a slightly different version of the song, also a slightly different version of 'Sting':

Sting

Now for the slightly different lyrics, as you shall see:
"Angry Man In New York"

I don't drink coffee I take beer my dear
I like my toast burnt on each side
And you can hear it in my verbiage when I mock
I'm an angry man in New York

See me stalking down Fifth Avenue
A whipping cane here at my side
I take it everywhere I walk
I'm an angry man in New York

I'm an angry man I'm an evil angry man
I'm an angry man in New York
I'm an angry man I'm an evil angry man
I'm an angry man in New York

If, "Manners maketh man," as someone said
Then he's the zero of the day
It takes a man to ignore suffering and smile
Be myself no matter what they say

I'm an angry man I'm an evil angry man
I'm an angry man in New York
I'm an angry man I'm an evil angry man
I'm an angry man in New York

Modesty, propriety won't lead to notoriety
You could end up as the only one
Gentleness, sobriety, beware in this society
Go burn your candle brighter than the sun

Takes more damn combat gear to make a man
But just one license for a gun
Confront your enemies,  and shoot 'em when you can
A ruffian will never walk or run

If, "Manners maketh man," as someone said
Then he's the zero of the day
It takes a man to ignore suffering and smile
Be myself no matter what they say
Be myself no matter what they say
Be myself no matter what they say

I'm an angry man I'm an evil angry man
I'm an angry man in New York
I'm an angry man I'm an evil angry man
I'm an angry man in New York
When En-Uk has learned this variant by heart, I might introduce him to the real lyrics . . .
